Lately, I’ve been craving for some hot fashion items. Well, stuff like shoes, handbags, yadda yadda.. And that’s when I found out about Roca Wear. Yep, the clothing label created by Jay-Z and Damon Dash.
As one of the urban fashion industry leader, they got themselves a very good-looking and easy-to-navigate website. And about the products, don’t worry, you can browse all the latest fashion here. I have visited fX, a brand new mall at Jl. Sudirman - Jakarta, for about 3 times a week now. It’s a unique mall and I think the teens will love it because there are tons of cute stuff here, well, the price it’s not cute enough though, too expensive IMO. But there’s only one thing about fX that keeps me wondering…
ATMOSTFEAR.
Super gigantic slide that slides from the 7th floor until the ground floor, and it’s located inside the mall.
It looks fun! I still haven’t try it though, it’s a bit expensive.. the entrance fee for weekdays is Rp. 50.000,- and for weekend is Rp. 75.000,- and if you spend Rp. 100.000,- or more for shopping or dining in fX, you can get a free atmostfear ticket.
The queue is incredibly long, kids with their folks, teens and I think everyone wanna try this giant slide. I’m a bit disappointed because I still haven’t tried it yet. Well, I was wearing a skirt yesterday, I don’t think it’s a wise decision to play atmostfear with a skirt.. Yeah, especially with those we’ll-broadcast-you-to-every-single-person-in-fX-har-har-har webcams. Hell no.

Okay. I decided to read Stephenie Meyer’s novels, you know, the ones that made lots of hoopla out there. All bookstores (esp. Gramedia) were flooded by this series. So I bought a copy of the first book, Twilight, in Indonesian version. I was amazed with the weight of the book, it’s really light! Just like those imported books. Way to go, Gramedia Pustaka Utama! And then I started to read, and well, the story wasn’t that good. I don’t know, it’s just like the heroine is very obsessed with his own ’sempurna dan tampan’ boyfriend, and yeah the rest is a love story between human and vampire.
Well, I’m not gonna write about the story, there are too many pro and cons reviews about the story out there so I’ll write about the translation. Yes, the translation. It’s HORRIBLE. How come I spent much time in pain trying to understand a simple young adult novel, and to add some irony, written in my own native language?? And then I started to realize that the translator didn’t use ‘terjemahan bebas’, but instead she used the ‘terjemahan per kata’! And that’s where the horror begins.
Original (english) version: “Well, maybe a million or two.”
Indonesian version: “Yah, mungkin sejuta atau dua.”
Aw COME ON!! Kenapa sih ada penerjemah yang sampai hati alias TEGA bikin terjemahan kayak gitu??
I was really happy when Indonesian people started to appreciates books, and started to collect money just to buy some good books, making reading as one of the top list of their hobby. Yes, maybe they still can’t afford the original imported books, but they deserves high quality books even if it was translated into Bahasa Indonesia. This can only happened IF the publisher also provides high quality translation for high quality/popular international books. And that Twilight - Indonesian Version, is a failure. Big big failure.
I know I’m an ‘original-oriented’ version, I love to read books in their original language. Maybe I’m lucky enough to afford some imported books for english version novels, but what about another people, the ones that have the same hobby as me, the ones who appreciate books as much as I do, reading books with that kind of translation? Ini pelecehan verbal terhadap kemampuan berbahasa manusia.
Semoga para penerjemah lebih bertanggungjawab lagi dalam melakukan pekerjaannya. Saya ngga tau apakah novel terjemahan lain separah ini atau ngga. Ngga masuk akal banget kalo saya malah jadi pusing baca buku terjemahan Indonesia dibandingkan baca versi original inggrisnya.
Well, I almost stopped reading the whole series. But maybe I’ll give another chance, but this time with ebooks. I don’t like the series that much, so I won’t buy the rest of the series in original version (saya ngga akan beli terjemahan Indonesianya lagi, kapok!).

Finally.. I had a chance to try this new browser from Google. After all those busy bussyyyy internship days, I can get myself back to the lovely Internet.
Satu hal yang membuat saya akhir-akhir ini mengeluh soal internet, selain koneksi yang suka lambat dan tagihan yang lupa dibayar, adalah BROWSER. Saya adalah pengguna Firefox yang setia (setelah berpaling dari IE tentunya), tapi sekarang ini saya terpaksa ‘melihat-lihat sekeliling’ dulu karena Firefox (terutama 3rd version-nya) makin lama makin lambat start-nya (padahal udah di-optimize) dan tampilan internet sering goyang-goyang dan melebar ke kanan. Akhirnya saya sempet memakai Opera sebentar, yang menurut saya keren, namun saya tergoda sama browser baru-nya Google.
Browser yang dirilis bulan September kemarin ini masih dalam versi beta, tapi overall cukup memuaskan jadi saya pengen nulis review tentang browser ini. Berhubung saya cuma user internet yang awam, bukan orang IT, web developer apalagi software engineer, jadi saya tidak akan mengcover hal-hal teknis yang berat-berat dan bikin pusing kayak API code, JavaScript processes, open source and stuff like that.
Look - One word: Clean. Bersih. Kinclong. Interface-nya simple banget, tampilan tab-nya ada di atas, download status plus pop-up blocks-nya ada di bawah, menu bar juga diubah menjadi dua icon kecil jadi ngga menuh-menuhin layar. Address bar-nya bener-bener multifungsi karena udah digabung sama title bar dan search engine Google, jadi tinggal tulis apa yang mau di search di address bar tanpa perlu toolbar-toolbar lain. Karena interface yang hemat ini, screen-nya jadi bener-bener LAPANG. Udah serasa pake ‘Full Screen Mode’ saking luasnya. Tapi kadang-kadang urutan tabs-nya suka bikin bingung kalau belum biasa.
Feel - Enak, ngga bikin pusing karena semua tertata rapi dan ngga ribet oleh aneka pernik. Banyak elemen-elemen yang bisa membuat saya bernostalgia, misalnya interface yang mirip Firefox dan halaman ‘Most Visited’ tiap kali saya buka tab akan selalu mengingatkan saya pada fitur ‘Speed Dial’-nya Opera. Tampilan elegannya juga mirip Safari.
Move - Start-nya jauh lebih cepet dibanding Firefox, dan speed-nya nyaris sekencang Opera. Buka banyak tab atau download banyak file sekaligus juga ngga mengganggu kecepatan browsing. Sampai saat ini Google Chrome saya juga belum pernah crash. Soal memory usage yah standarlah, meskipun ngga sebanyak Firefox.
Karena masih beta version, mungkin ada beberapa bug. Untungnya saya belum menemukan bug apa pun, atau kalaupun sudah, mungkin sayanya yang ngga nyadar karena ngga terlalu mengganggu. Sampai saat ini saya masih senang memakai Google Chrome dan akan terus mengikuti perkembangannya, entahlah ke depannya nanti apakah saya akan balik lagi ke pelukan Firefox atau ke pangkuan Opera.
